I have set up this web page to help you along in this class. The first thing that I want
you to do the first time that you visit this page is to send me your e-mail address, using
the form at the bottom of this page, so that I can e-mail you any announcements that I
might have (such as class being cancelled and extra credit.)
If you don't have an e-mail address, can get a PSU address from the Shattuck Hall computer
labs. Or you can get a free e-mail account that you can use from any computer with
internet access from Hotmail, Bigfoot, or Yahoo.
If you ever want to leave an anonymous
comment with me, you can leave a comment on the comment page
and tell me off under the student part of the page.
How to earn brownie points with me:
Although brownie points aren't actual points, they show me that you are interested in
geology and science in general. One way that you can show me how you are interested in
science is by using you computer as a tool for science when you are not using it. What I
am talking about is the SETI@home program
by the folks at UC Berkeley. What this is a screen saver that analyzes radio waves from
space for signs that they were created by something other than natural background data.
How you show me that you are doing this is to join the geoscience
group that I have set up under your name. This is a simple way to help science dig its
way through significant amounts of data (and a way to earn brownie points with me!).
